What is forbidden in Umrah?

Umrah is sometimes referred to as the lesser or minor pilgrimage. It consists of performing a set of prayers on the premises of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. It consists of four rituals, and we can perform them at any time of the year by booking Umrah Packages from the travel agency. Linguistically, the meaning of the word Umrah is to go to a particular place. In the Islamic sense, the state of Ihram in Umrah includes circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba, Sa'ee on the hills of Safa and Marwa, and shaving the hair or making Taqsir. On the Hajj days performing Umrah is not a favourite practice. 

 

What is Ihram?

Ihram is a garment worn during the sacred pilgrimage. Ihram means entering into a state of purity or putting specific clothes on your body. The first act of Umrah is Ihram. It is a state in which many things are appreciated.

 

Restrictions during Ihram

After putting on Ihram, many things become haram. Some of the things that are forbidden after putting on Ihram are:

·       Hunting:

A person wearing Ihram can eat fish or seafood. However, for that, hunting, Killing or Slaughtering is Haram. It is Haram to destroy the eggs of menstruating animals. Buying or selling these animals in the state of Ihram is also forbidden and take out their milking.

 

·       Kissing and Touching the Woman:

It is permissible for the pilgrims to kiss and touch his wife in the state of Ihram. If he does this and ejaculates, they will have to pay a fine equal to one camel. If a man does not ejaculate, he will have to pay a fine equal to that of a sheep.

 

·       Using Perfume:

It is forbidden for any person to use perfume in the state of Ihram. Whether he consumes dark way by applying it, smelling it or eating it. It is also not permissible to wear clothes with perfume.

 

·       Bleeding from one’s Body:

As a precautionary measure, it is forbidden for pilgrims to bleed from their bodies while in the state of Ihram. Whether it is through piercing or pulling teeth or anything like that. Although there may be a good reason.

 

·       Killing insects found in humans such as lice:

It is a prohibition for pilgrims in the state of Ihram to kill lice on their bodies. However, shifting them from one place to another is not a problem.

 

·       Cutting nails:

A pilgrim cannot clip any of his nails while in the condition of Ihram. For instance, it is acceptable to clip a nail if a portion of it gets blunt and the entire nail hurts.
