Some Common Mistakes During Umrah

The purpose of Umrah is getting the grace of Allah and it is a sacred journey to Makkah. Umrah can be performed at any time of year but it is not allowed in the days of Hajj. Umrah’s rites are so simple but its purpose is very important for the pilgrim. If anyone goes to Makkah with the intention of Umrah and he/she does not perform it with true intentions then Umrah will not be completed in term of spiritually because Umrah is also called spiritual journey otherwise Umrah will be completed in term of physically. 

Umrah is performed in Saudi Arabia, therefore, people should have some requirements to complete this spiritual journey. 1st Mistake: Ihram

Ihram is a dress which is worn after purifying oneself. If anyone does not purify himself/herself before wearing Ihram then he/she is not able to wear it rather he/she should first purify himself/herself by taking a bath and remove the unwanted hairs.

Some pilgrims think that if they change with sheets of Ihram, it will renounce their Ihram, rather one is prescribed to change the Ihram whenever one finds it necessary. 

After entering in the state Ihram, nobody can cut the nails, use perfume, hunt animals and involved in any sexual activities.

After entering in the state Ihram, some people uncover their shoulders from the Miqat. This act is against the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) because he did so only Tawaf al-Qudoom and that too, for the Umrah after Tawaf.

2nd Mistake: Every Pray is accepted at the 1st glance of the                                Kaaba

Many people have a notion that every pray is acceptable when they first time look at the Kaaba. It is not true because it is not proved from verses of the Quran and Sahih Hadiths.

3rd Mistake: Kissing the Hajre Aswad from far away and to                               stop during Tawaf

Kissing the Hajre Aswad is a Sunnah as our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) done. Although there is a great rush of pilgrims during the Tawaf, therefore, it is not possible for everyone to touch and kiss the Hajre Aswad physically. Actually, Tawaf consists of seven circles around the Kaaba and it is essential for everyone to start each circle with touching and kissing. Due to the rush of pilgrims, it is better for everyone to raise his/her hand at the point of Hajre Aswad and this act is acceptable for performing Tawaf.

Some people try to kiss the Hajre Aswad from far away due to a great crowd of pilgrims around the Kaaba. Such people stop in their tracks during the Tawaf and put up both hands on the side of their hands and kiss the Hajre Aswad in the air as they are throwing “flying kisses” at the Hajre Aswad. This method is wrong for Tawaf.

4th Mistake: Shouting out prays in unison

Some pilgrims shout at the top of their voices, in unison, while making pray during Tawaf. They follow a leader who says out different prays aloud, and then the followers all repeat after him in unison. Due to this act, other pilgrims disturb and confuse because of their loud voice. It is not the right way for prays.

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) stated:

Each one of you is conversing with his Lord (Allah), so don’t disturb one another or raise your voices over one another when reading (or he said) when praying.

 (Abu Dawood, Sahih by Al-Albaani)

5th Mistake: Doing Tawaf on someone’s behalf

Tawaf around the Kaaba is a great act but some people perform Tawaf on behalf of friends, relatives, and deceased persons which is a mistake. It is not proved from any hadith to perform Tawaf on someone’s behalf. Only Umrah and Hajj can be performed on someone’s behalf.

6th Mistake: Touching or wiping over the Kaaba

Some people touch the Kaaba’s walls or Maqam e Ibrahim and they think there is a blessing in it. They also touch and wipe their hands on the pillars of the Masjid e Nabvi for the blessing. Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) only touched Hajre Aswad and Yemeni Corner. Pilgrims should keep away from the cloth of Kaaba because it is perfumed and scented and perfume or scent is prohibited in the state of Ihram.

Women do some common mistakes:

1: It is not allowed for a woman to cover her face and hands with anything.

2: It is not allowed for a woman to recite the Talbiyah loudly as a man can recite.

3: Woman should keep herself far from the crowd of men during the Tawaf and      Saee.

4: It is not allowed for a woman to offer the 2 rakats in front of Maqam e Ibrahim due to the crowd of men there.
