What is Maqam e Ibrahim
Muslims every year perform Hajj and Umrah. People from every corner of world get Umrah and Hajj Packages and travel to perform Hajj or Umrah. Makkah and Madina Cities are full with sacred and holy places. Many Muslims not know the history of sacred places in Makkah and Madinah. One of them is Maqam e Ibrahim which history many people doesn’t know. A brief history of Maqam e Ibrahim is given in this article.
The
Position of Ibrahim (AS) is the huge four-sided stones on which Hazrat Ibrahim
(AS) stood while building the walls of the Holy Ka'aba which are the upper wall.
It is said that this stone was sent to Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) from heaven together
with three different stones one of which is the Sacred Black Stone, also known
as Hijr-e-Aswad. The second one is the stone of the children of Israel and the
third one is Maqam-e-Ibrahim.
The
piece was moved further when the development of one section was finished and in
this way, all the upper portion of Ka'aba was built. At the point when the
development was finished, the square was left there on the eastern side of the
Holy Kaaba. One of the marvels of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S), which huge numbers of
us may be unconscious of, is that when He remained on that stone, it turned out
to be soft and his feet dived into the stone which resulted in establishing the
impression of his feet on the stone.
Following
a few hundred years, those impressions are still on that stone Sa'eed bin
Jubair (RA) revealed that the Prophet (PBUH) stated: "The stone is the
station of Ibrahim. Allah made it soft and made it a kindness. Ibrahim would
remain on it and Ismail would hand the stones up to him."
Amid
the Khilafat of Hazrat Umer (RA), he got it moved from the eastern side of
sacred Ka'aba to the front of Ka'aba simply near the entryway of the sanctuary.
It was done as such that the Muslims may not confront any trouble while
performing tawaf as it used to come in their way. The present place where it is
found now is where Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) offered two rakah prayers after
completing the construction of Ka'aba.
Amid
Tawaf, at the time of Hajj and Umrah, it is desireable if the Muslims offer two
rakah prayers behind Maqam-e-Ibrahim. A man may offer a prayer from a
separation so no inconvenience is caused to different Muslims performing tawaf.
It is compulsory to offer prayer after completing tawaf or the tawaf won't be
accepted. Allah said in Holy Quran in Surah al-Baqarah:
"Keep
in mind that We made the house a position of gathering for men and a position
of safety, and take ye the station of Abraham as a position of prayer; and We
covenanted with Abraham and Isma'il, that they ought to sanctify. My House for
the individuals who compass it round, or utilize it as a retreat, or bow, or prostrate
themselves (in prayer)." [2:125]
So, from hadiths and Quran verses the importance of Maqam e Ibrahim
is cleared. Hajj and Umrah are sacred pilgrimage. People who are capable of
performing Hajj and Umrah must perform these rituals as soon as possible. Now a
day performing these rituals are very easy as many companies offer cheap Hajj
